Anders als bei Homo erectus stand das Ziel jedoch l\u00e4ngst fest: Das Neanderthal in Mettmann bei D\u00fcsseldorf. Die Auspr\u00e4gung von \u00dcberaugenwulst, Vorhandensein von Scheitelkamm und Hinterkopfwulst, die Lage des Hinterhauptlochs und das Hirnvolumen \u2013 das waren nur einige Merkmale, anhand derer die Sch\u00fclerinnen und Sch\u00fcler das Alter und die evolutive Reihenfolge verschiedener Sch\u00e4delknochen bestimmen konnten. Sp\u00e4testens hier war allen Beteiligten klar, dass der Neandertaler mit der rauen Natur in unseren Breiten vor rund 400.000 bis vor 40.000 Jahren noch h\u00e4rter zu k\u00e4mpfen hatte als wir. Der interaktive Rundgang durch das Museumsgeb\u00e4ude bot neben vielz\u00e4hligen Audio-Informationen auch immer wieder Forscher-Boxen, an denen Info-Schubladen mit Exponaten aufgezogen werden konnten. Neben der gesamten Humanevolution beinhalteten die Stationen insbesondere die Geschichte des Neandertalers, von dem italienische Steinbrucharbeiter 1856 bei Mettmann Knochenfragmente fanden. Dies verlieh dem Neanderthal seinen Namen.\u00a0 <em>Homo sapiens neanderthalensis<\/em> hat sich auch mit dem modernen Menschen <em>Homo sapiens sapiens<\/em> vermischt und so stecken seine Gene auch heute noch zu 1-4 Prozent in uns Europ\u00e4ern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nach 1,5 bis 2 Stunden waren die Sch\u00fclerinnen und Sch\u00fcler am Ende des Rundgangs und aufgrund der Vielzahl an Informationen auch am Ende mit ihrer Kraft.
